Avianca SA (Aerovías del Continente Americano) was founded on December 5, 1919 as Sociedad Colombo Alemana de Transporte Aéreo and is the flag carrier airline of Colombia. Its was the first airline established in America and second in the world. The headquarters of the company is located in the capital Bogotà. Its main operational base is El Dorado International Airport in Bogota (BOG), with a strong focus on the cities of Medellin, Cali, Cartagena, Barranquilla and Miami (USA). Avianca operates flights in an extensive network of destinations in America and Europe and has signed several codeshare agreements with other airlines, the most important are with Air Canada, Delta, Air France, Grupo TACA, Copa, Iberia, Aerolineas Argentinas and Satena. From 2012 Avianca is a member of Star Alliance.
